Hosted by TV legend Don Lane and gleaned from over nine thousand hours of live television footage, this program includes excerpts from ground-breaking shows such as In Melbourne Tonight, The Paul Hogan Show, The Footy Show, The Don Lane Show, featuring early career appearances from local talent such as Peter Allen, Daryl Somers, Helen Reddy, Lana Cantrell, Dame Edna Everidge, Rolf Harris, Olivia Newton John and international stars such as Dolly Parton, Chubby Checker, Neil Diamond, Phyllis Diller, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Travolta and Robin Williams.
From famous on-screen partnerships – Graham Kennedy and Bert Newton, Ernie Sigley and Denise Drysdale, Paul Hogan and Strop, to the rise of talent shows such as New Faces as well as the many controversial on-air moments, every facet of Channel 9’s bejewelled crown of live entertainment is explored in sparkling detail.
Also included is the 1978 broadcast of The Don Lane Celebrity Roast, a rarely-seen treat featuring Sammy Davis Jr, Toni Lamond, Frank Thring, David Frost, Paul Hogan as well as some truly memorable hijinks.
